Award Winners 2024
Tonight, three talented researchers will be honored with the “Life Sciences Bridge Award 2024”:
Dr. Carolin Schneider, Dr. Kilian Schober and Dr. Vivek Thacker.
This year’s Life Sciences Bridge Award goes to an outstanding young researcher and two exceptional young researchers: Dr. Carolin Schneider, Dr. Kilian Schober and Dr. Vivek Thacker. The award ceremony, which is endowed with a total of 300,000 euros, will take place this evening at the Literaturhaus Frankfurt am Main. The scientist and the two researchers are being honored for their groundbreaking research work in the fields of metabolic disease prevention, T-cell research and tuberculosis research.
Dr. Carolin Schneider, internist and junior professor at RWTH Aachen University, uses innovative data analysis methods for the early detection of metabolic diseases, with a particular focus on non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Dr. Kilian Schober, immunologist at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, decodes the complex mechanisms by which T cells distinguish pathogens from healthy cells. Dr. Vivek Thacker, physicist and tuberculosis researcher at Heidelberg University Hospital, is using biochips to investigate how tuberculosis bacteria suppress the immune response.
The Life Sciences Bridge Award, presented by the Aventis Foundation, is the most highly endowed prize for young scientists in the life sciences in Germany. The award is intended to support researchers on their way to a professorship and promote their innovative approaches. Through the targeted promotion of talented researchers at German universities, the award contributes to strengthening cutting-edge research in Germany.
