Awarded again

Lukas Bunse, winner of the Life Sciences Bridge Award 2023, has received another award: the Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize 2025 from the German Research Foundation (DFG).

The neurologist from the University Medical Center Mannheim is thus one of ten young researchers to be honoured this year for their outstanding scientific achievements.

Bunse is investigating the role of the immune system in brain tumors – in particular how immune responses against tumor cells can be specifically promoted. His work opens up new perspectives for the treatment of gliomas and is regarded as pioneering in neuro-oncology. The Heinz Maier-Leibnitz Prize is awarded annually to scientists in the early stages of their careers and is endowed with 200,000 euros. The award ceremony took place on June 3 in Berlin.

The DFG has been awarding the prize since 1977 to researchers who have already distinguished themselves with an independent scientific profile after completing their doctorate. It is named after the physicist and former DFG President Heinz Maier-Leibnitz. Congratulations to Lukas Bunse and continued success and inspiration!
